Learn from the habits associated with bad management

When it comes to management, a few key points separate successful leaders from their counterparts.

According to Andrew de Waal, a professor at the Netherlands' Maastricht School of Management and academic director of the High Performance Organization (HPO) Center, there are a number of habits associated with bad management that leaders should be able to recognise.

Left unchecked, these behaviours can prevent entire teams from achieving excellence, so it is especially important to be able to identify these.

Bad managers, de Waal asserts on the HPO Center blog, are too busy with so-called special projects to focus on their day-to-day tasks, which can leave departmental targets in the dust.

They are also quick to play the blame game rather than take ownership of their own actions - and are single-minded when it comes to communication.

According to de Waal, most bad managers have prepared an "exit strategy", which allows them to move around frequently enough that they do not feel they need to be held accountable for their decisions and choices.

Effective leadership is important in all fields, including real estate - which is where ongoing professional real estate training and development comes in.

Good leaders are constantly learning - and whether you are growing your own business or working as part of a team, having strong leadership and management in place from the very beginning can increase your chances of long-term success.
