Why respect leads to retention
A report by international workplace solutions company Regus has found that Australian employees value respect more than anything else when it comes to job stability.
Nearly 65 per cent of Australian respondents said that being appreciated for their work was the most important factor for them enjoy a happy work atmosphere.
A second key result was that 49 per cent of employees said that a vocal acknowledgement of their contribution made them feel good about their workplace.
These two factors were found to greatly contribute to job satisfaction and the likelihood of a worker staying with an employer.
Speaking on staff retention, regional director at Regus Celia Donne said that employees were more aware than ever of the important role that the personalities and characters of their coworkers played in the enjoyable nature of a workplace.
Donne asserted: "Simple steps like showing respect for all staff, making a point of congratulating staff on good work and helping colleagues develop by encouraging skills and knowledge sharing contribute to creating a more human and wholesome environment that staff are not easily tempted to abandon."
