Northern Territory businessman 'raring to go'

One of the Northern Territory's most buoyant commercial personalities has expressed an interest in the potential offered by developing a nine-hectare plot of bushland in the northern Darwin suburb of Marrara.

John "Foxy" Robinson exclaimed to the Northern Territory News on January 15 that he was "very interested" in being able to deliver homes for up to 250 workers on the site.

"I'm raring to go!" he told the publication.

NT chief minister Delia Lawrie has said that the land will be made available on a 'peppercorn' lease for a period of up to 15 years and may be used to provide space for an additional 600 workers drawn to Darwin to work on the new Icthyus gasworks project.

Lawrie asserted: "The Territory government is committed to ensuring our bright future does not drive up the cost of living."

The new resources developments that are planned for the region have experts predicting that Darwin and surrounding areas will be experiencing an increase in population over the next few years - fuelled by the need for experienced workers.

In turn this could produce a number of opportunities for real estate professionals - a topic that is sure to be of interest to property conference attendees.
