ARPM speaker profile: Greg Hocking

For real estate professionals just starting their career, one of the most exciting things about attending a property management convention is the opportunity to hear experienced industry leaders speak about their experiences.

People often hear whisperings about success stories and rags to riches tales, but very rarely do they actually get to sit in the same room and be delivered advice with the best of the best in the property sector.

That's why events like the Australasian Residential Property Management Conference (ARPM) are so popular - passionate new agents cannot wait to soak up inspiration from those who are already at the top of their game.

And coming along to ARPM 2012 is someone who has definitely got a lot of experience under his belt - Greg Hocking.

Preparing for growth

Greg started out his property career in the mid-1970s after a few years in banking. First off he did some work with Biggin and Scott, but then in 1985 he went on to establish an agency called Hocking Stuart with his business partner Andrew Stuart.

They worked together for over twenty years and by the end of this period had 42 franchises and employed 500 staff members.

This is why preparing for growth - and moving with the times - is something that Greg knows a lot about.

He will be sharing this expertise at ARPM 2012 with a short presentation called Growth - The Reality.

Starting fresh

After 22 years with Hocking Stuart, in 2010 Greg branched out and opened his own agency called, fittingly, Greg Hocking Real Estate.

Although a different business and a fresh start, Greg's work ethic remains the same. He still believes in delivering the best service possible.

"We treat our clients with respect," he says, as quoted on his website.

"We do what we say we'll do and we do the right thing every time because we know that when we achieve the best results for our clients they become ambassadors for our business."

Hiring and firing - recruiting wisely

Another area of Greg's expertise lies in recruitment. He understands that the agents and property managers he hires will be representing his brand and philosophy on the ground level.

He wants the best of the best - anything short of genuine passion will not do.

"I'm a big believer in attracting the best talent, fostering that talent and creating opportunities for development," explains Greg.

"It's hugely satisfying to see the willingness, passion and enthusiasm of our team and watching them develop wonderful careers within the industry."

If you are interested in listening to Greg and other speakers, come along to ARPM 2012 at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney. The property management conference is being held on August 5 and 6 - there will also be a Trade Show and exclusive networking opportunities. Register and learn more about ARPM 2012.
