Employees want development, not money

Employment seekers are more likely to choose a role that offers long term career progression and leadership training, according to a survey conducted by eFinancialCareers.

Results from the recent study show that job seekers and current employees are behaving more cautiously when searching for new roles and tend to spend more time and effort researching a potential employer's background and training regimes.

The research covered the experiences of a number of professional human resources managers actively involved in the recruitment process to gather insight into recent hiring trends.

One manager - who asked to remain anonymous - asserted: "Compensation is of course still important, but most people are now changing firms mainly for a new opportunities and career development. They are looking for the next challenge."

Amongst the details of the report, one key factor stood out. Firms looking to attract - and retain - industry stars could do well if they managed to develop a career progression plan, then promoting it to candidates throughout the hiring process.

This notion was summed up by an anonymous HR professional, who said, "Candidates are questioning why the opportunity has become available in the first place and are therefore asking more of us during interviews."
